Director-General, International Labour Organization (ILO)

Gilbert F. Houngbo was elected as the ILO’s 11th Director-General on 1 October 2022, the first African to hold the position. He is also Chair of UN-Water, the coordination mechanism of the United Nations for water and sanitation. A former Prime Minister of Togo (2008-2012), Houngbo has also served as President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and held numerous roles at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In 2021, Houngbo was invited to become a board member of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), and to chair the Board of the Natural Resource Governance Institute.
